Lagoa Santa, in the state of Goiás, Brazil, is a nature destination. There are no grand monuments or historic centers: what draws people is the water. The hot-spring lagoon, the Rio Aporé, the water parks and the surrounding Cerrado form a whole that is best explored at an easy pace, over two or three days. These are the places worth the trip.
Thermas Lagoa Santa: the hot-spring lagoon
It is the municipality's calling card and the reason the town exists. An ecological paradise formed by forest, river and thermal springs that come together in a lagoon of clear, mineral, sulfurous and medicinal water, with an average temperature of 31 °C. The water rises from underground at one of the highest natural flows of thermal water in the world: 3.6 million liters per hour.
The complex has 370,000 m² of untouched green space, crossed by boardwalks that lead to the bathing spots and offer panoramic views of rare beauty. You can walk the forest trails among native trees and a great variety of birds, and watch fish and aquatic plants in the clear water. On cold mornings, the steam rising from the lagoon is the most photogenic moment of the day.

A wide, fast-flowing river with a rocky bed, ideal for water sports. It runs south and empties into the Rio Paranaíba, which in turn flows on to the Rio Paraná. It has stretches of swift water and others that are calm, and it is linked to the lagoon by a channel that carries the overflow from the thermal springs. It forms the border between Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul along its entire length of roughly 200 km. Boat trips and fishing are the most popular activities.
