Guesthouses (pousadas) in Lagoa Santa, Goiás

The town's family-run guesthouses, with direct contacts, and how to choose between downtown and the riverbank.

Updated on 2026-10-08

The guesthouse (pousada) is the most common type of lodging in Lagoa Santa, in the state of Goiás, Brazil, and that says a lot about the town. These are houses extended or built to receive guests, run by the owners themselves, with a handful of rooms, a simple breakfast, parking in the yard and a price that usually fits a family's travel budget. Almost none has a website: bookings are made by phone or WhatsApp, and it is the owner who answers.

The guesthouses are concentrated on a few streets. Downtown, most are on Rua Ana Cândida da Silva, Rua Calipso Luís de Moraes and Avenida Doralice Ferraz da Costa, all a few minutes' walk from the main square, the restaurants and Balneário Kin Gin. A second group sits on Avenida Ulisses Guimarães, on the bank of the Rio Aporé: these are the favorites of anglers and of anyone wanting to combine a dip in the lagoon with a boat trip, because they are where you ask about boats and boatmen. The thermal lagoon, inside Thermas on GO-302, is a few minutes' drive from any of them.

Since the town has 1,400 residents and is flat, location matters less than style: a downtown guesthouse is more practical for eating out and getting around on foot; a riverside guesthouse is quieter and has the Aporé at the door. What changes from one to another is what is included (breakfast, bed linens, air conditioning) and the policies on children and pets, so ask about everything before booking.

Book ahead for July, December, January, Carnalagoa and long weekends. The guesthouses have few rooms and fill up fast. The details below are for information and may change; confirm prices, payment methods and policies directly with each property.

How to choose a guesthouse

  • Going fishing or taking a boat trip? Stay on Avenida Ulisses Guimarães, on the riverbank. Pousada Sakura, (64) 3640-1119 (from abroad: +55 64 3640-1119), is the go-to place for arranging a boat.
  • Want to walk to dinner and to Kin Gin? Choose the downtown streets: Ana Cândida da Silva, Calipso Luís de Moraes and Doralice Ferraz da Costa.
  • Traveling with children? Ask whether there is a pool, an outdoor area and a crib, and whether breakfast is included.
  • Traveling with a pet? Not every guesthouse accepts them; confirm beforehand and ask about any fee.
  • Heat: from September to March the nights are hot; confirm whether the room has air conditioning or just a fan.
  • Payment: almost all accept Pix (Brazil's instant payment system); cards, not always. Bring some cash, since the town's ATMs are limited.

Quick questions

How much does a night at a guesthouse in Lagoa Santa cost?

It depends on the season and the number of people. Guesthouses are usually the cheapest tier in town, below the Hotel Thermas. Ask for the current rate by WhatsApp before booking, because holidays and July have a different price list.

Are the guesthouses close to the thermal lagoon?

The lagoon is inside Thermas, on GO-302, a few minutes' drive from downtown. No guesthouse is inside the complex; to sleep next to the lagoon, the option is the Hotel Thermas. See Hotels.

What is the difference between a guesthouse and a vacation home?

A guesthouse offers a room with breakfast and daily service; a house or kitnet is rented whole, with a kitchen, and works out cheaper per person for groups. See Houses and kitnets.
