Symbols of Lagoa Santa (GO): flag, coat of arms and anthem

What represents the town: the flag with the map of the municipality, the coat of arms, the anthem, the name for people born here and the dates the town celebrates.

Updated on 2026-10-08

Every Brazilian municipality has three official symbols: a flag, a coat of arms and an anthem. Lagoa Santa, created in 1997 and installed in 2001, defined its own in the first years of municipal life. This page brings together what has been verified about each one, shows the images available and points out what still needs to be documented, so that the City Hall or readers can fill in the gaps.

The flag

Flag of Lagoa Santa, Goiás
Flag of Lagoa Santa (GO): fifteen horizontal stripes and the map of the municipality in the green canton.

The flag of Lagoa Santa is made up of fifteen horizontal stripes in green, light blue, yellow and white, repeated in that order across the whole cloth. In the upper corner next to the pole there is a square green canton, as tall as nine stripes, with the map of the municipality in yellow inside it.

The elements are easy to read. The colors echo those of the flags of Goiás and of Brazil: green and yellow refer to the state and the country, and blue and white to water and purity, a natural association for a town born from a lagoon. The yellow map on the green field identifies the territory and is what makes the flag unique: no other town has that outline. The repetition of the stripes gives the design rhythm and makes it recognizable even from a distance, flying at the City Hall or at civic celebrations.

Records of the flag appear in vexillological databases such as Flags of the World (FOTW) and on Wikipedia. If the City Hall has the law that established the symbol, with the official description of its proportions and colors, the website will gladly publish it.

The coat of arms

The coat of arms of Lagoa Santa exists and is used on official documents, on the façades of public buildings and in the City Hall's communications. The image above is the only one we have and it is low resolution (150 by 130 pixels); the official high-resolution artwork can be requested from the City Hall, by e-mail at prefeitura@lagoasanta.go.gov.br or by phone on (64) 3640-1303.

The official meaning of the elements of the coat of arms has not been found in any public source. Municipal coats of arms in Goiás usually include references to economic activity, local nature and the date of creation, but we prefer not to describe what we have not been able to confirm. If you know the law that established the coat of arms or the text that explains its figures, send it to the website.

The anthem

Lagoa Santa has a municipal anthem, sung at ceremonies, in schools and at the town's anniversary celebrations. Out of respect for copyright and because we do not have the official version, we do not reproduce the lyrics here. We invite the City Hall, the Town Council and readers who have the score, a recording or the names of the authors of the lyrics and melody to send them through the contribution form. With the appropriate permission, we will publish them on this page.

Demonym: lagoense or lagosentense?

People born in Lagoa Santa (GO) are lagoenses, the form used by the City Hall and by residents. The IBGE records the variant lagosentense. Both are correct; in everyday life, "lagoense" is the one you hear. Its namesake in Minas Gerais, Lagoa Santa (MG), uses "lagoa-santense"; see the difference between the two towns at Lagoa Santa GO or MG.
